The course is designed for students from introductory, intermediate and advanced levels. According to your needs, I could customized different topics or themes for each class.
Based on the level of students, I will customize different topics and themes we are going to cover in the first class. From this Mandarin course, you will learn new words through different interesting sentences, from what you are most interested in, and from what you are most likely to do during your life.
Topics could cover such as travelling, culture, food, sports, hobbies, school etc.
You will also learn the pronunciation, grammar, idioms and jokes through our conversation.
Introduction to Mandarin1
An introduction to Mandarin pronunciation, elementary grammar and basic vocabulary. There will be an aural-oral emphasis. Students will learn to speak and understand simple sentences and to learn about 150-200 characters and expressions.
Introduction to Mandarin 2
Students will learn more grammar and vocabulary. By the end of the course, students will be able to read and write about 350-400 characters.
For students who wish to practice their listening comprehension, speaking, reading abilities and writing skills on a more advanced level. An additional 200 characters, together with idioms and more advanced grammar, will be introduced.
A sequel to Chinese 200. Students will learn more grammar, idioms and vocabulary. By the end of the course, students will be able to read and write about 800-1000 characters.
This course is designed to help students who have some knowledge of a form of Chinese other than Mandarin (e.g., Cantonese) to develop pronunciation skills and to strengthen their language abilities in Mandarin through listening, speaking, reading and writing. There will be an aural-oral emphasis.
Students' language abilities will be strengthened through activities such as news presentation, discussion and debate. Chinese culture and concepts of modern Chinese thought will also be introduced through reading and discussion.

Hi, My name is Yiyi Sun, you could also call me Viola! I was born in China, I have been living in China for 18 years. I am currently studying in McGill University, and I have plenty of experience of teaching Canadian to speak Mandarin. I like making friends, enjoy knowing the culture difference between people, and love to hear all people’s experience and background. I really try to make language learning fun and effective. I am a very open, friendly, and outgoing person, and I would love to share my stories and knowledge with you!
