Course description:

In this course I offer the student to learn the essencial grammar to be available to speak fluently in Spanish.
Basic grammar includes the most important regular verbs, nouns, adjective, singular, plural, numbers and most common phrases. Also conversation about diverses topics each class.

The approach offers the estuden to know the most important grammar, without being a grammar course, but without living apart stuff that is important to be available to use the language in an effective and proper way. I don't encourage my students to magic formulas like "learn without effort".

My name is Luis Laborda, a Spanish language teacher, journalist and social communication expert born in Argentina. I have both Canadian and Argentine citizenships.

I have a BA in social communication granted by the University of Buenos Aires.

As a Spanish teacher, I’ve been working at the Provincial Language Institute, in Montreal. My experience includes teaching Spanish to people of all ages, business and non-profit organizations. My duties also include to assessing students knowledge and progress, to assign and corrected homework, to prepare and correct practice work, to design test and to supervise final evaluation.

In 2010 I wrote and recorded a full set of 3 books and 16 cd’s to the new course of Spanish at the Provincial Language Institute.

In my career as journalist, I’ve been working in newspapers, magazines, radio, television and online in Argentina, Canada and Russia. Working at the media has given me a real measure of what communication means and excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills.

I’m creative, active, organized and enthusiastic and I have excellent interpersonal skills. I’m available to work whit small and big groups of people and I’m to teach Spanish is my passion.

Spanish is my native language. I’m fluent reading, speaking and writing in English. I can also communicate in French.

A1 - Beginner:

  • Understands familiar Spanish expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of concrete needs.
  • Can introduce him/herself and answer questions about personal details such as the place of residence and belongings.
  • Can hold a simple conversation in Spanish if the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

A2 - Elementary:

  • Understands frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance like personal and family information.
  • Can communicate in routine situations requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar matters.
  • Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and immediate needs.

B1 - Intermediate:

  • Understands the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in everyday situations.
  • Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where Spanish is spoken.
  • Can produce simple, connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
  • Can describe events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give explanations for opinions and plans.

B2 - Independent:

  • Understands the main ideas of complex Spanish text on both concrete and abstract topics.
  • Interaction with native Spanish speakers can happen with fluency and spontaineity and without strain for either party.
  • Can produce clear text on a wide variety of subjects and expose a point of view given the various options.

C1 - Advanced:

  • Understands a wide range of demanding, longer Spanish texts, and recognizes implicit meaning.
  • Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
  • Can use Spanish flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
  • Can produce detailed, well-structured text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns and connectors.

C2 - Proficient:

  • Easily understands virtually everything heard or read in Spanish.
  • Can summarise information from different spoken and written sources and reconstruct arguments in a coherent presentation.
  • Expresses him/herself spontaneously, fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in complex situations.
