About the classes

(What you can learn from this teacher)

The techniques are essential and effective, and students leave the classes speaking conversational Italian in a very short time. The instructor develops and prints curriculum adapted to her specific teaching method. The pamphlets with the included CDs are created to make understandable the essentials of the Italian Language structure. The Cds about Art and Cities, contemporary Poetry and Music give a full immersion in the Italian culture.

Course program:


In the Beginner session the instructor's goal is to provide you with an essential Italian vocabulary, rules of grammar and expressions and to connect you to the Italian culture in an interesting, dynamic way with CDs about Art and Cities and contemporary Italian Poetry and Music.
In the Intermediate session you will improve your Italian language through the practice of grammar with conversations, reading and translating. Learn some idioms and proverbs like: Chi dorme non piglia pesci – to surprise even the Italians! DVDs about cities and artists will take you on a virtual tour of Italy.
In the Advanced session you will improve your understanding and fluency in Italian language. Listening to contemporary Italian music, watching movies and DVDs, and reading short stories by modern writers make the classes enjoyable immersing you in Italian culture.
Conversazioni, Brani e Poesie (Conversations, Writer's Pieces and Poems). A session designed to practice Italian and enhance the knowledge of the language and culture.

Bastianina Campus was born in Italy, and has been living in New York City for more than a decade. Versatile and dedicated multi-lingual professional with broad-based background ranging from business/project management to teaching, interpreting, and translating. She has been teaching Italian for many years both in a traditional classroom setting, as well in online and other forums, such as individualized lessons.

Your Italian proficiency level will be evaluated by the teacher according to this framework:



A1 - Beginner:

  • Understands familiar Italian expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of concrete needs.
  • Can introduce him/herself and answer questions about personal details such as the place of residence and belongings.
  • Can hold a simple conversation in Italian if the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

A2 - Elementary:

  • Understands frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance like personal and family information.
  • Can communicate in routine situations requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar matters.
  • Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and immediate needs.

B1 - Intermediate:

  • Understands the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in everyday situations.
  • Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where Italian is spoken.
  • Can produce simple, connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
  • Can describe events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give explanations for opinions and plans.

B2 - Independent:

  • Understands the main ideas of complex Italian text on both concrete and abstract topics.
  • Interaction with native Italian speakers can happen with fluency and spontaineity and without strain for either party.
  • Can produce clear text on a wide variety of subjects and expose a point of view given the various options.

C1 - Advanced:

  • Understands a wide range of demanding, longer Italian texts, and recognizes implicit meaning.
  • Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
  • Can use Italian flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
  • Can produce detailed, well-structured text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns and connectors.

C2 - Proficient:

  • Easily understands virtually everything heard or read in Italian.
  • Can summarise information from different spoken and written sources and reconstruct arguments in a coherent presentation.
  • Expresses him/herself spontaneously, fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in complex situations.
