English as a Second Language (informal); one on one; Zanzibar, Tanzania; 2012-2013
While living in Zanzibar for two years, I tutored several native Swahili speakers in conversational English. Their abilities in English ranged from very basic to intermediate. While classes were primarily informal and conversational, I was responsible for helping one client practice for a (successful) job interview at an English-speaking job in tourism.
English Language Arts (university level) tutoring; one on one; Yellowknife, Canada; 2010-2012
For two years, I tutored a university nursing student for the degree's required English Language Arts courses. While the client was a native English speaker, she had struggled with the finer points of grammar, prose and flow throughout her studies. With my help we raised her written assignments to the level of elegance required, and she was very successful in her courses.
