The study of Serbian opens a window into the linguistic, cultural, and historical landscape of the Western Balkans. Serbian is a South Slavic language, part of the larger Indo-European family, and is spoken by around 8–10 million people primarily in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and the Serbian diaspora worldwide.
