I enjoy getting a chance to work with a variety of people from different countries and backgrounds. I enjoy helping people improve their English skills, whether for professional and personal reasons, and to see their progress and the benefits of improving.
I became an English teacher because I have always been passionate about the language; having studied English Literature and Linguistics at university and being a total grammar nerd as well. I also knew that I wanted to help people improve their lives and this was the capacity in which I could do that.
The most common reasons for wanting to learn or improve English skills are for professional or personal development. People want to take on jobs with more responsibilities and higher salaries and English is usually an important skill in these positions. Some people also like to travel and want to feel more comfortable communicating with people from other countries in a variety of situations.
English is easier than some languages in terms of grammar and having no gendered nouns is a definite advantage. The most challenging part of learning English, in my opinion, is the pronunciation and the use of phrasal verbs.
Canadian English is like a mix of British and American English, using vocabulary and pronunciation from each of those two varieties. Of course, it depends where in Canada you are located!
