Hello, I am Deborah Shaw. I am from California, USA. For the past five years I have been living and teaching in China. I have tutored students from first year primary to ninth grade middle school. I have taught ESL for three years and the most recent two years I have been guest mathematics teacher in second grade. I have also taught Health classes for eighth and tenth grade girls. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of the English language and learning other languages. I like to play the ukulele with a small group. I care about sustainable living and sustainable resources. I care about our oceans. I like reading books!

In Zhengzhou, Henan, China I taught 7th grade ESL classes for two years. The students were local and also from other provinces. During those two years I also tutored staff children in grades one to six. On the weekends I worked at a private English school and tutored a 9th grade boy who loved American basketball. We discussed basketball videos and he told me about Chinese history. I moved to Honduras and taught a sixth grade bilingual class, then I moved to southern China and taught Oral English to freshman and sophomore students at Huashang College Guangdong University of Business Studies. I have taught elementary mathematics to grade two students and health education to grade eight and ten students.

I have worked in Canada, USA, Uganda and the Philippines. I was a Corporate Trainer with the British Council. I also taught ESL at an international school to students in every grade (senior kindergarten to senior high school). I taught English online, and worked with business professionals as an educator for a British Council online MOOC course.
I now live in China, teaching Academic English (reading, writing, literature and phonics) to children and youth.

As language is more than just oral English, I also prepare my students for their interviews and presentations, and help them with writing, editing and proofreading resumes, academic essays, school applications, and business communication materials (websites, menus, public signage, brochures etc.).

In Nigeria, I worked as a tutor for approximately one year, helping primary and secondary school students with various school subjects, including English and other academic subjects.
