À propos du professeur

Hallo! I am an American living in Berlin. My background is in linguistics and music, and I am currently writing my doctoral dissertation. For the past three years I have had extensive experience teaching and tutoring the following subjects in English and Mandarin Chinese: violin lessons, music theory, keyboard harmony, music history, and humanities. Teaching is my greatest passion and I have worked with students as young as 3 and as old as 70. You are warmly welcome to get in touch if you are interested in working together!

Expérience

I have taught violin privately for about five years in America and China, to students ranging in age from 3-70. I have taught music theory, keyboard harmony, and music history for two years at The Juilliard School in New York. I have also tutored general humanities for three years in New York to private students on subjects including philosophy, reading comprehension, writing, poetry, and etymology.

Education should be appropriate to the needs and abilities of each student. I love teaching and encouraging students to set new goals and overcome themselves! I like teaching students so they can learn how to study efficiently, timewise and skillwise. Students should be able to be critical and tackle task in the most proficient way to always get the best results out of themselves. My classes will include history, music theory exercises and instrument classes.

Qualifications

I graduated from the pre-Univeristy level of the conservatoir of the University of Costa Rica and started and finish the first two years of a double major degree in Music education and violin performance before moving to Germany to study.

I also assisted the program in the U.S.A for the Sewanee Summer Program under the teaching of Lin He now serving as the Associate Professor of Violin at the Louisiana State University School of Music doctorate from the Eastman School of Music
I also have experience as composer, interpreter and trained as project management, cultural journalism and art criticism.

-More than 6 years of experience teaching violin to students from 3 to 65 years old.
-Experience in Public and Private institutions.
-Coaching students for Orchestra, history, piano and music lessons.

Expérience

I have also taugh piano lessons and orchestra coaching. I have also worked as orchestra assistant where I had to direct and take the violin sections to do sectionals and help them with the difficult passages.

Neben regelmäßigem Instrumentalunterricht und Ensemble-Coaching für alle Altersgruppen und Niveaus habe ich zahlreiche professionelle Workshops geleitet, darunter 'Music First' und 'Music Masters' in London, und war Dozentin beim Primary Arpeggione Viola Course und Springgrove Music Competition. Ich begleite regelmäßig Schüler am Klavier und bereite sie auf musikalische und akademische Prüfungen auf allen Ebenen vor, einschließlich Musiktheorie, Gehörbildung und Blattspiel. Derzeit bin ich Mitglied der European String Teachers' Association und habe an ESTA-Konferenzen in ganz Europa teilgenommen.

I'm Toby and I am a professional violin and viola teacher based in Berlin. I have taught students of all levels for over 10 years and teach in English, German, Russian and French - at students' location, my location or online.

As well as regular instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of all age groups and levels, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ in London and taught on the Primary Arpeggione Viola Course and Springgrove Music Competition. I regularly accompany students on the piano, and prepare students for musical and academic exams at all levels, including music theory, aural and sight reading skills. I am currently a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, and have participated in ESTA conferences across Europe.
