How long to be able to converse in Portuguese?

OP (Buenos Aires)

I am planing to take Portuguese classes because I may have the possibility to move to Brazil next year. How long does it usually take to be able to hold basic conversations in Portuguese? I only speak English and basic Spanish.

A conversation class can last an hour or 30 minutes.

I recommend that you take a first class with a 75% discount.

Hi, it depends on the frequency of the classes. For example: by having 1 hour classes twice a week, without missing any class, you can have basic conversations between 1 and two months.

Hey there.

It really depends on how much time you can dedicate weekly to learning the language.

Let's say you have two lessons a week and can't dedicate time for homework in between lessons. I'd say you would be able to hold basic conversations in 6-8 months. That's because learning time in between lessons really speeds up the process, as you will have more continuous learning.

If you have 3 lessons a week and time for homework in between, I'd say that you could be holding basic conversations in 3-4 months. Then again, everything depends on your level of dedication, time available and motivation to learn the language.

I hope it helps!
