What's the hardest part of learning English?

(Montreal)

November 21

Are you struggling with certain aspects of the English language? We've asked our English teachers what are the most common difficulties international students face when learning English.

Martin Dansky : If the person is constantly forgetful, disorganized with little incentive to learn and accepting the new language then that is the hardest part. Then the individual has to make an effort to seek out opportunities in which he/she can continually practice and acquire new forms of speech and vocabulary along the way.

Ashley English : Most of my students find writing or pronunciation the most difficult.

Dakota Smith : Since I'm a native English speaker, it's a bit hard for me to judge. However, I would say in general students struggle a lot with learning verb tenses and subject-verb agreement. Depending on one's native language, it may also be difficult to pronounce words, especially using the alphabet sounds.

Eleftheria Nika : Everyone is different and each student finds different things difficult based on their background!

Rosemary Elman : I think the hardest part of learning English is learning to accept that sometimes there is no rule to follow, it is simply a question of memorization.

Syed Faiz Ali : The hesitation to speak wrong English at first.
