What do you like the most about teaching Greek?

Anna Gkini : I find the Greek language fascinated. I am blessed that is my native language and aspire to help people learn it too! The way grammar is constructed and the richness of vocabulary make this language fascinating and I am passionate about teaching it to everyone out there. Meeting people interested in Greek language and culture is such a heartwarming feeling. Teaching a class is is my highlight of the day.

Marina Wedderburn : What I like the most about teaching Greek is learning and understanding the origin of the Ancient Greek word. Understanding the actual meaning of the word can take you to a whole other level in you grammar but mostly in your understanding of using the words correctly. I enjoy showing my students that many of the words we are using today are actually Greek for example : doctor, democracy, marathon, athlete ,planet, acrobat, galaxy, melancholy, narcissism, phobia, panic, scandal, sarcasm, and of course many words that doctors and scientists use are based in Latin and Greek language. Charalampos Markoutsas : My favorite element of teaching Greek is the exploration of the languages roots through history. When it comes to greek vocabulary and grammar, that would be the skeleton of the language. The idioms finally, are the beauty of Greek language.

Stathis Tsiompanos : Greek is one of the oldest languages in the world that is still in use. It was once the most widely used language in southern Europe and on the shores of the eastern Mediterranean. Nowadays it is the mother tongue of about 12 million people in Greece and Cyprus. I, as a teacher, love to pass on new knowledge to young people, but also to older people as well. Maria Keli : Teaching is about human interaction. You give and take. With most of my students we keep in touch and there is a kind of friendship between us. I love explaining how every greek word doesn't just mean something but it describes an object, a feeling, a condition. I like my students' reaction when we meet english or international words that come from a greek word. For example, ecology, economy, epidemic.

TATIANA GALIKOU : I like to show to other people how rich and magic is the Greek language.

Iliana Papathanasaki : I love teaching my mother language. Greek is a rich language, and I feel proud when students come to me to teach them!

Filio Alexandrou : I like how people get excited to use it to communicate, travel and understand the culture. Being able to teach someone Greek it's a pleasure because, we can connect on another level. I love teaching and helping people achieve their goals and dreams. I see it from myself, learning different languages changes your perspectives about the world and it is an amazing feeling.

Anastasia Ch : A language is a part of the identity of a culture. I like transducing that information. Greek is a historical language that changed over the years but remains the language of science.
